James Brown's Papa's Got a Brand New Bag
: James Brown's Papa's Got a Brand New Bag
Classic, old school LP definitely has a groove throughout that's about as deep as the Marianas Trench. The title track is solid and really comes to life in vinyl, but tracks such as "And I Do Just What I Want" and "Have Mercy Baby" are gems that COULD have been hits, if only AM radio at that time had larger playlists. Top-50 anyone?
Viagem
Nicola Conte: Viagem
Very cool and relaxing compilation of Brilian bossa nova and jazz tracks from the 1960s. They were compiled by Nicola Conte and it's easy to see how these tracks have influenced his own work.
Just A Little Lovin'
Shelby Lynne: Just A Little Lovin'
Transcendental music, familiar due to repeated listenings of the Dusty Springfield original yet Lynne brings out a lot that Dusty left in the studio. Highly recommended on vinyl...
Lucky One
Raul Malo: Lucky One
Probably the best singer working in the country/roots/americana categories right now. Producer Steve Berlin brought out a lot of emotion in Malo's voice, plus the song selection is more varied than on previous albums.
Transnormal Skiperoo
Jim White: Transnormal Skiperoo
I wasn't knocked out by this guy right away but after about three albums, his music is really growing on me. His writing offers a very fresh POV, with catchy melodic hooks that serve White's lyrics well.
Soul Messages from Dimona
Various Artists: Soul Messages from Dimona
Weird, weird, weird, but it's sure plenty funky.
Mucho Macho: Machito & His Afro-Cuban Salseros
Machito & His Afro-Cuban Salseros: Mucho Macho: Machito & His Afro-Cuban Salseros
Particularly good on the Pablo double-LP release, this is an amazing primer to introduce listeners to the early stages of salsa music.
Love Psychedelico: This Is Love Psychedelico
Brilliant US debut by this Japanese duo features some nice songwriting and enjoyable audio engineering. Can't wait to see them perform.
