I was in San Luis Obispo for Thanksgiving and was walking around town early Thursday morning and came across these cars.
Back around 1958 or 1959 I lived in the apartment to the far right of the photo. This was shortly before my parents bought their first house (and before they bought a salmon-colored Plymouth Suburban station wagon with big fins) so my memories of my residency are vague at the best. However, I was surprised to see these two early-1950s Willys parked here.
The car on the left appears to be a 1953 Willys Aero and it had a for sale sign in the window. It seemed to be in pretty good condition, definitely in the "restorable" category if you wanted to throw some money into it.
The other Willys seemed to be a little more instantly roadworthy. I like the stylish whitewall tires, the bench seats, and the manual transmission on the steering column. These cars were an unexpected find on the streets of SLO - although I've seen Willys Jeeps around over the years, these are the first of their cars I've stumbled upon.
