While on my daily walk last Sunday I saw a sign for an estate sale in a rather tony part of Brentwood and needing to put additional miles on my MBTs I headed up the hill to the address on the sign. Wending my way down a long driveway that led to a bridge over a stream, I eventually made my way up to a house amid a virtual forest. It was the last day of the sale and by far the most interesting thing was the 1957 Mercury Montclair moldering away in the garage.
Advertised as being "with dream car design", it looked impressive even in its current condition. With a Holley 4-barrel carb on a 368 cid engine, it put out a formidable 290 hp. It's a sharp looking car but was in need of so much work that I didn't even bother asking what they wanted for it. Valenti Classics in Wisconsin has one available though, provided you've got aobut $40K to play with. Looks like fun...
For a lot less money you can have this striking 1957 Mercury brochure, available from McLellans Automotive for $40:
